Biogeographic Classification of India
Biogeography is the study of the distribution of plants and animals spatially (geography) and temporally (history).
Biogeography aims to reveal where animals and plants live, at what abundance, and why (or why not) they are found in a particular geographical area.
Birds of Maharashtra
Birds found commonly in human habitations
Maharashtra is blessed with varied terrain and diverse climatic types resulting into varied ecosystems viz. coasts, inland and coastal wetlands, plains, plateaus, grasslands and hills.
The State thus supports nearly 540 bird species, both resident and migratory occupying these varied habitats!
This presentation has a select few birds which are commonly found inhabiting human habitations - towns villages and suburban areas alike.
